Michael Palmer's book of poetry, At Passages, was published by New Directions in 1995, and his New and Selected Poems was published by New Directions in 1996. His previous books of poems include An Alphabet Underground (After Hand, 1993), Sun (North Point Press, 1988), First Figure (North Point Press, 1984), and Notes for Echo Lake (North Point Press, 1981). His many honors include the America Award for Poetry, two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships, a Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund Writer's Award, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. He has collaborated with the painters Micaëla Henich and Sandro Chia, and on an evening-length dance work, The Gates (Far Away Near), with Margaret Jenkins, Paul Dresher and Rinde Eckert. A dance work, Fault, in collaboration with the Margaret Jenkins Dance Company, premiered in the fall of 1996. He has translated the work of a number of poets, including Emmanuel Hocquard and Alexei Parshchikov, and his own poetry has been translated into over twenty languages.
